Young Engineers Recognized for Excellence at Techtextil Trade Fair

The Techtextil trade fair in Frankfurt served as a platform for celebrating the achievements of young engineers, as the Chairman of the Walter Reiners Foundation of the VDMA, Peter D. Dornier, presented awards to six promising individuals. The awards, which encompassed both promotion and sustainability prizes, were bestowed upon recipients whose academic theses demonstrated exceptional innovation and dedication to advancing the field of engineering.

In the Bachelor’s category, Anna Markic from Reutlingen University stood out, receiving a sustainability prize worth 3,000 euros for her thesis on the recycling of carbon fibers. Mark Zenzinger, hailing from Albstadt-Sigmaringen University, was honored with a 3,000 euro promotion award for his work on the automation of the process chain for the production of welded textile hard goods.

Lena Fink, a student at TU Dresden, was also recognized with a promotion award worth 3,000 euros for her project focused on simplifying the maintenance of braiding machines within the construction engineering domain.

In the Master’s category, Fabio Bussmann from RWTH Aachen was awarded a promotion prize valued at 3,500 euros for his thesis analyzing the life cycle assessments of alternative semi-finished products for geotextiles. Katharina Maria Ernst, also from TU Dresden, received a sustainability prize of 3,500 euros for her work on developing a suitable process for the treatment of chitosan fibers as an alternative starting product in the production of carbon fibers.

Lennart Hellwig, representing RWTH Aachen University, was another recipient of the 3,500 euro prize in the Master’s category for his research on machine learning applied to nonwovens plant operations.

These awards not only recognize the outstanding academic achievements of these young engineers but also highlight the importance of promoting sustainability and innovation within the engineering industry. Through their pioneering research and dedication, these individuals are shaping the future of engineering and contributing to the advancement of sustainable technologies and practices.
