TextileGenesis and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) Join Forces for Sustainable Fashion

In a bid to revolutionize the fashion and textile industry's approach to sustainability, TextileGenesis, a leading platform facilitating traceability in the sector, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®). This partnership aims to implement innovative solutions via the TextileGenesis platform, ensuring the traceability of cellulose fibers sourced from responsibly managed forests.

Cellulose fibers, including viscose, lyocell, and modal, are widely used in fashion and are derived from wood pulp. However, the production of these fibers can contribute to deforestation, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable sourcing practices.

Established in 1994, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) is a renowned international NGO dedicated to promoting responsible forest management worldwide. The organization offers certification for products sourced from wood grown in responsibly managed forests, ensuring compliance with social rights of workers, communities, and indigenous peoples along the supply chain.

Amit Gautam, founder and CEO of TextileGenesis, emphasizes the importance of this collaboration: "By partnering with the FSC®, we are taking a significant step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the fashion supply chain. This collaboration will facilitate the traceability of FSC certified fibers and streamline the administration and data management of FSC Chain of Custody certification."

Gautam further explains, "Our blockchain-inspired technology has already been instrumental in tracing fibers manufactured by environmentally conscious producers. Now, with the integration of FSC® criteria into our platform, all stakeholders in the value chain, including fashion brands, will benefit from increased transparency and reliability in sourcing."

Fabian Farkas, FSC International Chief Commercial Director, underscores the importance of streamlining FSC certification processes for textile companies: "Through this collaboration with TextileGenesis, we aim to simplify the administrative aspects of FSC certification by automating data processes. This will empower brands to seamlessly align with their FSC procurement policies and drive progress towards sustainability."

This collaboration comes on the heels of TextileGenesis's previous initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable practices in the fashion industry. From partnering with the International Cotton Association (ICA) to consortiums with footwear and leather players, and a recent partnership with the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF), TextileGenesis reaffirms its commitment to fostering a more sustainable and responsible fashion ecosystem.
