BTMA Showcases Advanced Fibre Technologies at Techtextil Frankfurt 2024

The development of innovative fibres for various technical textile applications is on the rise, with a focus on sustainability and enhanced functionality. These advancements will be spotlighted at the upcoming Techtextil 2024 exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany, from April 23-26. Among the key players in this arena is the British Textile Machinery Association (BTMA), which will be featuring over 70 niche fibre applications at the event.

Fibre Extrusion Technologies (FET), a prominent member of BTMA, specializes in designing bespoke fibre extrusion systems and nonwoven production equipment. With the recent expansion of its Fibre Development Centre, FET has significantly increased its capacity for technical trials, catering to a diverse clientele ranging from multinational corporations to startups.

Managing Director of FET, Richard Slack, emphasizes the company's focus on biopolymers and recycled fibres, alongside its involvement in the medical device sector, particularly in the development of resorbable products and enhancing implant durability.

Moreover, BTMA members like Airbond are revolutionizing fibre processing efficiency with innovative splicing technologies, enabling seamless joining of yarns and reducing waste significantly. Airbond's latest splicers, made through 3D printing, can handle yarn sizes of up to 16,000 tex, ten times more than conventional machines.

Sophisticated testing systems for fibres and advanced materials will also be showcased by BTMA members James Heal and Verivide, offering precise fault detection during production. Shelton Vision introduces the WebSpector automated fabric inspection system, featuring patent-pending image processing techniques for complex pattern recognition.

Additionally, other BTMA exhibitors include Avocet, Ascotex, and Vandewiele UK, presenting high-performance flame retardants, yarn guide technology, and jacquard weaving machinery, respectively.

Jason Kent, CEO of BTMA, highlights the ongoing demand for new fibres and processing technologies, citing sustainability and functionality as key drivers. As an essential platform for industry innovation, Techtextil provides growing opportunities for BTMA members across diverse textile sectors.

Founded in 1940, BTMA serves as a vital conduit for British textile machinery manufacturers, fostering collaboration and showcasing cutting-edge technologies on a global stage.
