Saudi Arabia's Fashion Industry Set to Surge with 48% CAGR Growth by 2025

The fashion landscape in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is experiencing a remarkable surge, poised to soar at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 48% from 2021 to 2025, according to a recent report unveiled by the Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority. This surge marks a significant trajectory for the industry, underlining its pivotal role in the Kingdom's economic narrative.

In 2022, the fashion sector contributed a notable 1.4% to Saudi Arabia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with its total value reaching a substantial $24.6 billion. Of this, the domestic fashion industry accounted for $12.5 billion, showcasing a robust local market presence alongside international brands.

Burak Cakmak, the CEO of the Fashion Commission, highlighted the Kingdom's sweeping transformation across diverse sectors, from architecture to music, film, art, and gastronomy. He underscored the pivotal role of the Fashion Commission in spearheading initiatives that are reshaping the fashion landscape. These endeavors aim at propelling local talents onto global platforms while fostering sustainable growth.

Central to the Fashion Commission's agenda is the nurturing of indigenous talent. The Commission has rolled out a spectrum of educational programs, workshops, and mentorship initiatives tailored to bolster the growth of Saudi nationals within the fashion realm. Moreover, in a bid to fortify the ecosystem, the Commission extends support to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), furnishing them with essential resources indispensable for scaling and expansion.

The impact of this burgeoning industry is palpable in the labor market as well. As of 2022, the fashion sector in Saudi Arabia provided employment to over 230,000 individuals, as per the Monsha’at report. A notable revelation from this data is the significant participation of women, constituting 52% of the workforce. This statistic underscores the progressive strides being made towards gender inclusivity and empowerment within the Kingdom's economic fabric.

Looking ahead, the outlook remains optimistic, with projections indicating a buoyant future for the sector. The women's apparel market is anticipated to witness a robust 20% growth by 2027, while the men's market is slated to expand by an impressive 27% during the same period. These forecasts signal not only sustained growth but also the evolving preferences and consumption patterns within the Saudi Arabian populace.

The ascendance of Saudi Arabia's fashion industry underscores its pivotal role as a catalyst for economic diversification and socio-cultural transformation. With a confluence of governmental support, burgeoning local talent, and evolving consumer preferences, the Kingdom's fashion landscape is poised for an unprecedented journey of growth and innovation in the years to come.
